Detroit Casinos Generate $112.5M in August Revenue
Detroit’s three major casinos reported a combined revenue of $112.5 million for August 2024. Of this, $110.8 million came from table games and slots, while retail sports betting contributed $1.7 million. The casinos experienced a 5.9% revenue growth compared to August 2023. MGM led with a 48% market share, followed by MotorCity with 28%, and Hollywood Casino at Greektown with 24%.
The increase in table games and slot revenue marked a strong month for the city’s gaming industry. From January to August 2024, Detroit’s casino revenue rose by 0.9% compared to the same period last year. In August alone, these casinos paid nearly $9 million in taxes to the state, reflecting the industry’s ongoing growth.
Retail sports betting saw impressive results as well. With a handle of $9.61 million, the casinos’ combined gross receipts reached $1.7 million. MGM, MotorCity, and Hollywood Casino each contributed significantly to this total, with MotorCity leading in retail sports betting revenue.
